Presentation
The images below are of a 68 year-old male who presented with a late chronic infection of a right total knee arthroplasty. The patient underwent a Stage-I procedure in early March 2009, at which time his infected hardware was removed and a PROSTALAC articulating spacer was placed (there are other articulating spacer options as well). The patient underwent six weeks of IV antibiotic therapy and was taken off all antibiotics in mid April 2009. The Stage-II procedure was performed in late June 2009 after inflammatory markers had normalized. Pre-operative synovial fluid specimen revealed a cell count of 1000 with 54% polymorphonucleocytes. The video is of the patient walking in clinic on June 15, 2009 while the PROSTALAC was still in place.
