Pre-OP
- Read the chart before the staff consultant enters – for patient history
- know the pt.’s condition & indication for the procedure
- details of pt.’s occupation, hand dominance, etc. if relevant
- Open the pt.’s pre-operative XRs, CT, or MRI on the O.R. computer screen
- Write the O.R. note in the pt.’s chart in the Progress Note Section
- Write post-op orders – residents will co-sign after the procedure
- Help position the patient

PEARL
always introduce yourself and be polite to the nursing staff. Prior to scrubbing, always get your gloves for the nurses and ensure you have a gown |
When Scrubbed
- Make sure to be one of the first individuals scrubbed so that you can help with the positioning of the patient and preparation of the surgical site
- Set up the suction, cautery and other necessary equipment
