Clinical Decision Making: EBM Educational Prescriptions for Ortho200
Goal: Improve students’ ability to use evidence for clinical care.
Method: Identify a single clinical question in musculoskeletal medicine; acquire, appraise and apply relevant medical evidence to answer it.
Educational Prescription (EP):
- You will be asked to work in groups of two or three; we have made your assignments.
- When you are in the clinics or operating rooms on Monday and Tuesday, keep your eyes open for a clinical question in musculoskeletal medicine that piques your interest. Please discuss your question with your partner and with the faculty in person at the Monday and Tuesday didactic sessions. By Tuesday afternoon, you and your partner should have identified the question. If you are unable to decide on a question, faculty will help you on Tuesday.
- After your Tues "Fracture" session, complete an online EP, which will lead you through the process of sking a clinical question, and cquiring, ppraising, and pplying the evidence (the "4As"). Your EP is due by the end of the afternoon

- Your email address is your username, and your 8 digit Penn ID is your password
- Please take the website orientation the first time you log on
- Provide as little detail of the clinical case as is necessary for your evaluator to understand the context of your EP
- EP should not take more than 60-90 minutes to complete
- EBM resources are available on the EP website, and the Biomedical Library at http://www.library.upenn.edu/biomed/
- Your EP will be evaluated as "Competent" or "Not Yet Competent". A grade of "Competent" is required to pass Ortho 200
- Please be prepared to discuss your EP at the Friday post-exam review session. There may be one question on the exam that relates to your EP.
- You can do additional EPs for your own use by choosing "No Faculty" from the dropdown menu
