- Low K+ 10 meq KCl in 100cc NS x 3 doses
Repeat lytes after last dose or K Dur 20 mg po bid - High K+(>4.9) Repeat sample, ECG, Calcium gluconate 1-2 amp IV, Insulin R 10 u + 1 amp D50W, B2 agonist, Kayexalate 30 g po, Lasix 40 mg IV, hemodialysis if refractory
- Anxiety Ativan 1 mg po qhs prn
- Hypertension Hydralazine 10 mg IM/IV/PO prn
Often secondary to post-operative pain and should be assessed on a case-by-case basis - Hypotension IV bolus NS 250mL/1hr. if young or 500mL/2hrs. in elderly
- Low urine output Foley, give fluids (bolus 250mL/1hr. if young or 500mL/2hrs), blood work (CBC, lytes, BUN/Cr)
Always check for significant blood/fluid loss (tachycardia, hypotension, agitation vs. confusion)
