Answer: C
Dislocation occurs after 1-10% of THA’s. Most dislocations occur in the first month after surgery. Less than 1% of patients first dislocate their hip 5 yrs after the initial procedure. The posterior approach had a higher dislocation rate prior to the routine of repairing the capsule. Regardless of the approach, there is a higher dislocation risk in patients with RA, and nonhealed hip fractures. In addition, 50 %( 10 out of 20) of male patients with dislocations had a history of alcohol abuse in a study involving 3,199 Charnley THA. Obesity does not place the patient at higher risk of dislocation.
