Preferred response: 5.
In spinal stenosis, symptoms are relieved by flexion (walking uphill) and worsened by extension (walking downhill). People with pain from vascular claudication find relief in standing, whereas those with neurogenic claudication find standing worsens their symptoms. Vascular claudication occurs at a constant walking distance where neurogenic claudication is more variable. Neither group should ever shop without a grocery cart.
