How to do it

With the long, index and little fingers extended, apply resistance as the patient attempts to flex.

The normal response

Grade 5 strength. The examiner is unable to overcome the flexor digitorum strength.

What it means if not normal

The flexor digitorum superficialis is innervated by the median nerve (C7, C8, T1).
