Location/Articulation

The cuneiform bones are located anterior and lateral to the navicular bone; proximal to the the first, second and third metatarsal bones; and medial to the cuboid.

Surface anatomy

There are three cuneiform bones in the human foot:

  • Medial cuneiform (shown in red)
  • Intermediate cuneiform also known as the middle (green)
  • Lateral cuneiform (orange)
