Diagnosis

Bucket-handle tear of the menisci

Discussion

The displaced fragment of a bucket handle tear of the meniscus can move medially to lie within the intercondylar notch. The fragment-in-notch sign is defined as a band-like area of low-signal intensity within the intercondylar notch, not appearing on the same slice as the PCL. The sign, when identified, can be valuable in picking up a bucket-handle tear of the meniscus.
