• Acute, fulminant disease affecting infants and children less than 2 years of age
• Typically less skeletal involvement
• Systemic disease associated with hepatosplenomegaly, adenopathy, central nervous system involvement, fever, anemia, thrombocytopenia
• Potentially fatal clinical course
• Treatment includes corticosteroids and chemotherapy
