Type 1: Femur is similar to the femur in a primary total hip arthroplasty

Type 2A: Defect has calcar bone loss that does not extend to the sub-trochanteric level, which is fairly supportive

Type 2B: Femur is characterized by loss of the anterolateral region of the sub-trochanteric bone of the metaphysis

Type 2C: Femur is characterized by a non-supportive metaphysis; in this case, the postero-medial metaphyseal wall is absent or non-functional

Type 3: Femur has extensive metaphyseal and diaphyseal destruction
