Diagnosis

Normal – No joint effusion

Discussion

Radiograph of the shoulder (A) and the hip (B) show a crescent of air-density within the joint adjacent to the head of the humerus and the femur, respectively. The pneumoarthrogram sign is simply the finding of gas-density within the joint and signifies that no joint effusion is present. It is a reliable sign and of great value when identified.
